Our Adult Life Skills Program is for adults 18+ with special needs. We have a fully functioning house where our participants learn homemaking skills while working on their communication skills and social interaction. Our current participants have grown and maintained an amazing vegetable garden and we will use the produce to stock our farm stand which will be ran by the participants. We offer a small group environment where the participants are always busy with hands-on activities, learning new skills, and interacting with one another and our staff.

Equine-assisted learning for veterans provides emotional, cognitive, and physical benefits. Veterans who have participated in our Taking the Reins program at The Legacy Ranch have reported that their PTSD has been alleviated and that working with the horses has increased their self-esteem. Participants will take care of and bond with their own horse, as well as work together as a team to overcome challenges and develop better skills to deal with stress, tension and fear.
Horses are prey animals and must always be on the lookout for what is safe and what may threaten them in any environment they are in, which makes them hypervigilant and alert. When the horses are given the opportunity to feel safe and trusted, their behavior and demeanor changes. Veterans have stated that they feel the horses can understand what they are going through which creates an unbreakable bond.

This camp is dedicated to kids who love the outdoors and nature! This camp takes place at The Legacy Ranch on our 20 acres that abuts a 75-acre forest preserve with a view of our 20 horses - an experience you cannot find anywhere else!

All participants that join this camp will be admitted into our offsite horse show on June 11th at Francis Field in New Lenox.
